Fall to rise

Yes, sometimes we fall. In life. At work. At home. Figuratively and literally.

Yoga has taught me that no matter what challenges you face, and whatever life throws at you, you have to pick yourself up again. In the immortal words of Aaliyah, dust yourself off and try again.

In yoga, we learn to be playful, test our mind and body’s limits and when we challenge ourselves we realise how much we are capable of. It’s ok to lose your balance or fall out of a pose as we learn the limits of our body, and the next time we try the same pose or transition, our mind knows to refine a movement in order to find strength and stability.

The same can be said for day to day life. It’s ok to make mistakes as long as we learn from them. Anxiety and stress can make us feel the weight of a mistake, however, this is often how we learn.

Sometimes, overcoming our greatest challenge, offers a greater sense of achievement. So next time you fall in one of my classes, or in your day to day life, forget the mistake, learn the lesson. Pick yourself, dust yourself off and try again; and only look back to see how far you’ve come.
